Establishing yourself as the leader, or "alpha", in your dog's eyes can be one of the more difficult things to teach them. If your dog believes themselves to be alpha, they may begin to misbehave and not respond to commands. As pack animals, dogs need to know who is in charge of their pack. When you become their owner, you need to let them know that it is your pack and you are the leader.
In order to become the alpha in the eyes of your dog, you will need to invest some time into training your puppy. Luckily, there are behaviors you can do and ways to treat your dog that will aid in making this task easier. The most basic thing to remember is to lead your dog everywhere. Do not allow them to enter a room or walk through a door until after you have. Next, use everyday
things to reward them so it is not just expected. These things include food and toys. Command them to sit before feeding them or even petting them. If they do not obey, do not feed or pet them until they do. Always maintain a higher level than your dog. No sitting on the floor to play with them or pet them. Do not allow them on the furniture until you are alpha and even then, only allow them up when you say it is okay. Always be confident, firm, and do not issue commands so they sound like questions.
