Goldendoodles and Hybrid Vigor

Goldendoodles have quickly become one of the most popular family dogs in the U.S..  Every year more and more people are discovering the joys of owning a Goldendoodle puppy.  Everywhere you look there are Goldendoodle puppies for sale.  The Goldendoodle is a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle, and combines traits from both breeds, so it is no wonder they are so popular.

An F1 Goldendoodle refers to the first generation of a cross between a purebred Golden Retriever and a purebred Poodle.  The F1 generations of Goldendoodles exhibit what is called "hybrid vigor", which means that the hybrid breed (Goldendoodle) is actually stronger than the two original breeds. An F1b generation Goldendoodle results from crossing a first generation Goldendoodle with a Poodle, and they acquire more of the Poodle traits.

Goldendoodles also inherit the intelligence and hypoallergenic traits of the Poodle.  They tend to shed a lot less than other dogs and they are perfect pets for people with allergies to dog dander.  Goldendoodles also inherit the gentleness and friendliness of the Golden Retriever, which ensures that they will get along great with children and other dogs.  Because they are a crossbreed, Goldendoodles can vary greatly in appearance. They can be any color from dark brown to white. Their fur can be curly like that of a poodle, or shaggy and long like a Golden Retriever.
