Getting a dog is like getting a new family member, it is a huge commitment and investment. Instead of just choosing the dog you want when you go to a shelter, there are a number of things you should consider before you get a dog.  If you choose a dog that will thrive with your lifestyle, then you and the dog will both be much happier and better off.

One obvious thing to consider is the size of the dog you want.  If you live in a small apartment with no yard, then getting a big dog is probably a bad idea. They need more room to run and play than smaller dogs.  Different dogs have different energy levels as well.  If you are more of the couch potato type, then getting a Jack Russell Terrier is probably not going to be a great experience for you.  Instead, you should choose a dog with low energy, and then you can

be couch potatoes together.  That goes for grooming as well.  If you don't want to be constantly cleaning and grooming your dog's fur, then get a low-maintenance dog.  One other thing to consider is your dog's temperament.  If you have children who will be jumping all over your dog, then you should go with a breed that is known for being gentle and sociable.

There are a lot of other things to consider, but those are some of the main factors.  If the dog you are choosing fits your lifestyle nicely, then you will gain a loyal and friendly companion.  One breed that works for just about everyone is the Goldendoodle, which is a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.  Dawgy Doodles is a Tennesse Goldendoodle breeder that offers happy and healthy Teddy Bear Goldendoodle puppies.
